With the introduction of an ebony stained dining table in the spring, I find my open concept north facing dining/living room is way too dark. All the wood finishes and soft furnishings either black, ebony or a dark black-brown.

Tired of the darkness am ready to lighten things up. This room needs some pizazz, just the other day my husband complained how dark and uninviting it was. He is so right! When I finish the kids' rooms I am going to re-vamp this space.
Before I go and paint out the sideboard and bookcases I would like to sew some slipcovers for the parsons chairs that flank the dining room table. The plan is to use a creamy white linen or canvas - something that launders easily.
My dilemma is what style of slipcover to make?

Should I sew a slipcover...
with a flirty ruffled skirt?

or flirty ruffle with a bit of leg showing (so risque)

A floor length tailored skirt?
Pleats?
Or simply tailored?

Hmmm... not sure, so many choices.
I think I am leaning towards pleats, what do you think?
I can't wait to see what you do Barbara!
ReplyDeleteI love the second photo showing a bit of leg! But which ever one you choose will be beautiful!

They all look so good.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of partial to the short risque skirt though, fun yet not too feminine.

I love the idea of a slipcover! I once had a set of six for my north facing dining room. They were the ruffled kind and all my friends called them the bridesmaids...I would recommend the more tailored version or just put ruffles on the host/hostess chairs.
ReplyDeleteMore than one or two of these is a bit much, in my opinion.
I like the pleats best of the options you`ve shown.
ReplyDeletei vote for pleats...so pretty
ReplyDeleteI love the floor length tailored skirt, from ballard designs!
ReplyDeleteHey we have the same chandelier, you were right, and I love your entire dining room, hey are those blue and white balls from Pier 1?
Tailored for sure. I think it would really compliment your clean design :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
oh gosh, I like them all! But my favorite is probably the one from Ballard. Can't wait to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend. I'm sitting here looking @ our very first snow flakes of the year!
I have these VERY SAME chairs. I too want to throw a cover on these babies. I love the short little one with the ruffle. Or even the pleats. Over at Junkfest, I just saw that she has slipcovered her chairs and they are SO stinkin' cute! Will you do me a favor? When you do decide what you're going to do, will you tell us all how exactly you cover them. I'm sure it's simple. I would just love you to pieces if you did:) Thanks! Good luck.

Wallpaper (Liz) I got the blue and white balls from Bombay.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the help everyone! Will let you what I decide!
Personally I like the tailored look the best, but any of them would be pretty!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do :)
Have a great weekend!
