So Long Summer, Hello Fall.

Sorry you have been listening to crickets chirp here on my blog.

I have had a few busy last weeks of summer. We managed to get our oldest daughter off to university. Her dad drove her out, 1200 KM of great father-daughter time. He ran around purchased a few items for her room, I got a few panicked phone calls and text messages regarding blow dryers and mini fridges!!

But she is in, her dad has left and now she is on her own. What a weird feeling not to be be there and watch her experiences first hand. Now I get things in spurts, a few text messages here and there and random photos. She is a great girl with a good head on her shoulders AND it helps that her aunts/uncles and grandparents lived near.

Good luck D! {I doubt she reads my blog but worth a shot}

Tomorrow my other two head off to school. And my school year starts as well. Many of you know I teach part-time, for the past 6 years I have been on call, but this year I am looking for a part time position. What is nice in my school district is you can share a classroom, so I hope to dip my toes in slowly.... wish me luck!

And what is fall without renewed energy for organizing and working on a few projects that have been waiting to get done.

I was working on something using this:

and will be using this:

And with our oldest living away for most of the year, her brother gets her room and we are moving her things into his small space AND Momma gets a sewing space!

So our weekend looked like this:

Packing up D's room, bringing in things from A's room.

Any to-do projects you want to tackle in the next few months? Do you find September feels like a "new year" where the motivation and energy hits?

XO Barbara

  2. Do you use your decorating talent to spruce up your classroom? When my son was in second grade I talked the school into letting me take home the sad, institutional green wooden school chairs and paint them in their school colors. A few other teachers liked them so much they followed suit.

  3. I feel like we're living parallel lives right now...so much similarity in all we're facing these days. Isn't it weird to have a child move away and go from constant contact to random texts? Weird, weird, weird. I'm with you on the keeping busy with room moves and re-decoration plan...decorating always helps though these sorts of times. Crossing fingers for you re: job:)))

  4. after being a full-time student for 18+ years {5-23} September always feels like the new year to me. Your post reminds me of MY first year of going off to university - such a special time in any life. I also remember my sister taking over my room! haha. Enjoy the extra space - can't wait to see more of what you craft and create.

  5. I have just done the same thing here ... one off and settled (finally) into her new apartment at college, one beginning her senior year and trying to figure out what is next on her horizon and two more just humping it through right now!! It is a dreary day today and with the kids out of the house it is the perfect time to adjust a few things ... mentally and physically!! xo

  6. Although I don't have any kids in school, September still feels like a new year to me. I've already reorganized a closet and it's only Sept.4! Lots of projects I want to get going on...Cant' wait to see your new sewing space and what you whip up!

  7. I love September and all of it's possibilities! I think I would be a wreck when my daughter goes off to school - she's my only, so it would be very hard. At least, you have all of your projects to take your mind off things!

  8. Now that my son is in grade 12, I think about how I'll be experiencing the same thing next year- yikes! Fall, to me, always signifies a new year. Being a teacher, as well as a student for so many years definitely has me feeling a bit of nostalgia. Sometimes I really miss my students, but I like my quiet office so much more!
Good luck finding a part time teaching job. Sharing a classroom and the responsibility would be the perfect job!

  9. Oh wow! You've been so busy, I've been keeping up with you on IG!
Fall does feel like I need to kick my butt into gear before I lose my garage workspace to the car for the winter!!

  11. Well nobody is leaving home quite yet over here but I have mixed feelings about "back to school". I love and hate the routine. I love the chance to get organized again but I really hate the non stop go-go-go of the regular routine. Good luck in your job search Barb!!

  14. Definite on the motivation - I do much better with routine, so I'm ready for Fall to kick in - but maybe the sunshine can last just a little bit longer? We're heading into Grad year in this household, so no changing up rooms just yet ;-) Good luck with the job share search - I hope a posting comes up that is just perfect for you!

  15. Big changes! I'm sure it will take some time to adjust to not nah aging her there. Even though we're not heading into fall here or a new school year, somehow Sept will always feel like a fresh start time of year. :)

  19. Seems like we are both busy! Good luck with the part-time working! I'm looking forward to catching up with you this month... we'll get to see each other TWICE! :)
I'm hoping to finally get to work on the sunroom, as well as the dining room... while we continue to add pieces to other parts of the house as well, of course... it never ends, does it?

  20. Oh an exciting time for all. I love Fall and I think part of that is that it feels just like a new year, more so than January 1st. Good luck with the teaching, you are all going back to school :)

  21. Yay to a sewing room!!! Your own space is well deserved :-)
It's good to hear that D is settling into her dorm and university life. You're right that you and T raised a good, smart and level headed young woman... she'll do well!

  22. I love September for those reasons!!! Kinda like a new year ....... really, maybe more than in January. Although this year is a little different because I'm just starting my vacation to France and because of this, I feel a little out of sorts.... France will be fun though.

  23. Oh, such a trip is a few years away for me and I need them all to prepare!! Not ready at all to let go of the kids...

Best of luck with landing a teaching position, what area do you specialize in?

    Have a great fall! Janell
