Amy Butler Fabric: Pillows

While I have been procrastinating with my own to-do list I have been helping my sister (another famous procrastinator  - she will be mad at me for this comment) finish her projects. It always more fun working with someone on their projects instead of your own. A while back I wrote about how we went shopping for fabric for her room, but we haven't tackled any sewing until now.

 Procrastination is our middle name.

This week she brought over all the fabric for the duvet and throw pillows for her bed. During our shopping trip we chose some Amy Butler fabrics from her Midwestern Modern Line that would go well with the robin's egg blue herringbone toss pillows she had by Nate Berkus' from the now defunct Linens and Things.

I managed to sew her some throw pillows for her bed this week!

Life isn't all play, I have managed to do something productive, even though it isn't tackling my own to-do list.

We used inexpensive pillow inserts from Ikea, the larger one is down and cost $6 while the smaller polyester fibre-fill pillow was about $2.

(This wasn't planned but I noticed once I posted the photo that in the background is my sister on her wedding day!)

The piping around the pillow was made from the contrasting fabric,  the backing was made from a robin's egg blue fabric.

I made covered buttons for the enclosure.

Here is a sneak peek at our other project we worked on this week!

I know, I know.....

I should be working on my own projects. Good news though....I have started working on the upholstered headboards for the girls' rooms. Hopefully I can get them finished before we head on our vacation!

  1. Procrastination is my middle name too! I love the Amy Butler fabrics and what a talented seamstress you are - they turned out great. We will have a race to the finish to see who completes their daughter's room first - my bet is on you! Love to see what headboard shape you have come up with(maybe I missed an earlier post?)
Hope you are enjoying the summer!

  2. Love it! The fabrics you chose are awesome, and I am in love with the fact that you used the contrasting fabric on the piping! So pretty. And I can't wait to see the headboard, I can already imagine it is going to be fab :) But don't be too stressed about it, vacation time is well deserved and should be fully enjoyed!

  7. I so agree with you about having a project buddy. I would get so much done if I had one. I would gladly work on their projects alongside of mine. I think this is the way to go. Your sister is very lucky!

  8. Wow! Those pillows look amazing! You really are an expert seamstress! Love the covered buttons too. That close up picture shows what expert sewing skills you have! Wish i had a little time to sew but as you know swim club is sucking the life out of me. Did I mention we got roped into diving and water polo too? A few more weeks of this and I might have time to get back to my blog - but for now I'll just live through you! Can't wait to see your headboards all done too!

    Happy summer,
    Cath

  11. You are so talented, Barbara! I love the AB fabrics and the contrasting piping. The button closure is lovely. I wish I could get the button hole feature to work on my machine. I've watched the DVD 10 times and can't seem to figure it out! Thank you so much for linking your beautiful work to air your laundry Friday. Hope to see you tonight!

    Hugs,
