~Bye-Bye Green! Hello Gray! ~

I spent my rainy Wednesday painting my daughter's room.

Have I mentioned my disdain for her apple-glow-in-the-dark-need-sunglasses-everytime-I-am-in-the-room green walls?

Well....they are no longer.

Sorry - sad non edited photo. I am in a hurry to put the room back together! Yes - that is the silver leaf lamp my hubby tried to throw away! Well.. its baaaaack.

Up went Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore (except, sorry Ben M. I committed paint adultery and went with a colour match Behr low VOC paint instead - which went on like butter)

I am pleased with my colour choice. It is a soothing soft feminine gray. It has blue-violet undertones that looks amazing with her black furniture and fuschia accents.

She comes home tomorrow. I will not succeed in finishing the room like I had hoped.  I have been pricing out foam for the headboard and found out I need to order some in, which will take a week. Sorry darling. Good design doesn't happen overnight, it is a process that requires time.

I need your help with the headboard foam:

Should I go 2" thick or 3" thick? She wants a curved top with tufts. I was thinking I might attempt diamond tufts, so not sure what thickness to go for. Maybe someone out there might have a suggestion or two?

  1. ohhhh...that's a stunner and it really does look great with her black furniture and bedding.

No need to edit photos, we all get anxious to get things done and show them off :) I have one pic with a GIANT dust bunny on the floor. Ah well, that's real life, eh?

    Looks grand Barbara.

  2. Fabulous job Barbara!! Your a hard worker! I love grey's with a purplish undertone, they are warm and inviting. It really turned out great.

I unfortunately don't know much about making an upholstered headboard, but maybe the tufts would be deeper and more exaggerated if you chose the thicker foam?? I hope someone else has more knowledge for you than I do!

  3. Loving the grey!
I've been thinking back and forth on the foam size, Barbara... I was going to say that 2" foam with a layer or 2 of batting should work best with the diamond tufting, but I'd be so concerned for you that the headboard would lose some important plushness that only a 3" piece of foam could bring. And the more I think about it, the 3" should make find tufts. So... I vote for 3"!! HaHa!! What a crazy indecisive mind I have!!

  4. Love the gray! I too said goodbye to green (although not the need-sunglasses shade) and hello to gray in our master. And I too, committed paint adultery - matching BM's Revere Pewter to Pittsburgh Paint Low VOC Ostrich Gray. I am loving the new colour. Check my blog in about a week or so for the big reveal :).

And I love that silver leaf lamp - it was made for that room!

  5. My vote is for the 3 inch foam....what better place is there for luxury than in a bedroom? I can't wait to see the finished results!

    Many Blessings,
    M.

  6. I love the gray too! I would use the 3" foam I think it will be more luxurious in the end. Good luck, can't wait to see it finished.

  7. I can't wait to see it all completed. She is a lucky girl. I also love all the recent photo project picture links. I've been having fun checking out anything I haven't seen before. I have been very slow in adding people to my blog roll. I just wanted to let you know will be under my fav decor blog title as of today. Have a great day Barbara.

  8. I love the grey too Barbara! You did a great job. I am not an expert on making an upholstered headboard by any means but I agree with what others are saying, I think the 3" will give deeper more exaggerated tufts! Can't wait to see how it turns out :)

  9. This gray looks gorgeous! Can't wait to see the finished room, the gray looks so much better than the green.

  10. Who'd a thunk gray but I think it is very nice and soothing.

You want 3" most definitely to give the tufting more depth. Although you're not sitting on it 2" would just be too shallow.
