One Room Challenge | Rental Kitchen Makeover: Week 5

It's freaking week 5 folks!

My rental kitchen makeover is in the final stretch. I still have a to-do list that doesn't seem to get smaller. But it's my fault. I let it sit for 2 weekends as I entertained house guests. This past weekend I worked like a madwoman trying to check off my to-do list. I am partly winging this as I go along, tweaking my plan as I go. I think if I was more organized from the get go, I would be farther ahead.

If you are joining in for the first time, welcome! The One Room Challenge created by Linda from Calling It Home is where 20 featured designers work on making over a space in 6 short weeks. I am participating as a guest participant. There is so much design goodness floating around - be sure to check ALL the amazing spaces as they progress into the final week.

Where am I in the chaos that is now my kitchen?

The shiplap is installed and then I hit a glitch. I needed 3 boards ripped lengthwise but hardware stores couldn't do it for me. Finally my friend Victoria for The FAT Paint company (they make the most awesome chalk style paint BTW!) told me they had a table saw! Yay! I drove in rush hour to get to their shop and her brother Brad cut it for me. When I got home they are still too wide. Holy moly. I am so done with this One Room Challenge. So I am off to visit them again to get 1/4" sawed off.

My chaotic and messy kitchen.

The stools are refinished!

The stencilling of the backsplash has begun and it is harder than it looks! Took a few tries before I got the hang of it. There are many weird angles and nooks, so I am stencilling all the easy bits and tackling the trickier parts at the end.

The cabinet knobs arrived via Amazon but without the screws. I went with the cheapest dark matte knobs I could find. Since we are renting AND I needed 50, I didn't want to spend a lot. If this was my dream kitchen, I would have spent more.

The relaxed Roman shades are done and waiting to be installed.

The ONLY pretty thing right now is the rug that came a few weeks ago.

What is left to do?
  • Finish stencilling the walls
  • Install cabinet knobs
  • Install blinds
  • Re-cover desk chair
  • Re-cover bulletin board
  • Strip and stain kitchen table

I need a drink, anyone care to join me?
